If this is one of your first experiences with databases you will find that the database will report back only information that has been added to the database; so if you enter search criteria for data that has not been entered into Demo University the fields will be empty.  In general Demo University contains information on four students Student 1, Student 2, Student 3 and Student 4.  Other students and other student data have been entered by visitors, so how much data exists on those students depends on how much information was entered.

Demo Exercise

As a way of exploring the database capabilities we suggest the following exercise:

Step #1:   Enter as the Program Director or DCE for Demo University.  From the large blue Faculty Database Page and select Add a new Student.  Follow the instructions for log in names and passwords.  If this is entered correctly the system will send back a confirmation page that says the new student was successfully entered.  This new student will now show up in all of the student drop down menus in the database.

Step #2:   Each of the database set up functions are similar to adding a new student; that is you can add a new faculty member, add a new clinical instructor, add new staff, or add a new clinical rotation site.  We suggest that you enter a new clinical rotation site, perhaps one named for a local hospital or institution.

Step #3:   Scroll down the Faculty Database Page to the Summaries Section and select Time Clock Summary.  This brings up a search options page -search on Student One; Active Student; All clinical Instructors and select Date on or after Jan 1, 2001, and hit Summary.  This will pull up student ones Clinical Hours for the time period selected compared to all students entered in Demo University for the same time period.  Use the back button on your internet browser or the link to the Faculty Database Page to return to the Faculty Database Page.

Step #4:   Scroll down the Faculty Database Page to the Summaries Section and select Daily Log Summary.  Search on the same criteria as above.  This will display a complete record of all of the procedures that Student One has performed during that time period.  Note that daily logs validated by the clinical instructors show up in blue and those submitted by the student, but not yet validated show up as red.

Step #5:   Scroll down the Faculty Database Page to the Summaries Section and select Clinical Competency Summary.  Search on the same criteria as above.  This will display a complete list of all the competencies that Student One has been evaluated on during that time period.  Note that competency evaluations are color-coded depending on whether the competency was satisfactory or unsatisfactory.  In addition, in the left hand name column if you select any of the Student One entries, the complete competency evaluation form will be displayed.

CoARC Survey Summaries

Step #6:   Scroll down the Faculty Database Page to the Program Surveys and select Employer Numerical Summary.  Perform a Type I Search using Graduate Class 2001; Year form was submitted 2002.  This will display a complete statistical report of the survey data for the class of 2001.  Note that questions scored below the cut score of 3 will appear in red text.

Step #7:   Scroll down the Faculty Database Page to the Program Surveys and select Employer Comment Summary.  Perform a Type I Search using Graduate Class 2001; Year form was submitted 2002.  This will display a complete report of the collated employer comments for the class of 2001.  Note in the Overall Rating portion, forms that have any item scored less than the cut score of 3 will appear in red text.
